When you work closely with people like Mel Robbins and Jay Shetty, you learn a thing or two. After all, they're not this successful by accident! It takes the right formula of authenticity, determination, passion, brains and well... these 5 things:
I wholeheartedly believe that having the right team in place can be the difference between scraping by and becoming wildly successful. It's not easy finding the right people, but I think it has less to do with hiring only the best talents and more to do with hiring smart, hard-working, dedicated, passionate and genuinely good people. Don't get me wrong - you need competent, experienced people to fill certain roles, but beyond that, you just need great personalities working together to get shit done. I've seen when our clients have the wrong team in place. Everyone's stressed, frazzled, doing each other's jobs, and the balance is way off. I've also seen what happens when people have the right team in place. A team that works together effortlessly, gets along, respects each other and allows the person in charge to do what they do best.
Do you think Mel Robbins handles her own social media? Of course not! As a matter of fact, over the years working with her, I've seen her become less and less available. On less calls, texting me directly with requests less, and cc'd on less emails. Am I offended? Well, I'd be lying if I said I did't miss how easy she used to be to get a hold of, but I totally get it and if anything, I respect it. Her team has created a buffer between her and everything else, which allows her to protect her time. Her assistant brings her things she needs to and her team handles everything else. When you get to a certain level in your business, there comes a point when you realize that delegating is the only way to get the things off your plate that are keeping you from doing the things that only YOU can do.
I'm not talking about drugs, I'm talking about not saying YES to every opportunity that comes your way. The more successful you become, the more other people and businesses come out of the woodwork asking things of you. Partnership? Paid Sponsorship? Product line? By working with these successful people, I've heard of so many ideas and potential partnerships they've been approached to do. But the wrong partnership can ruin a brand, which is why it's crucial to really be strategic about every opportunity on the table. Understand the contract, your rights, your involvement. The pros and cons. How it could negatively affect your brand.
True story about one of our clients. When we first started working with them, their team was a MESS. They were disorganized, unclear, frazzled, and always stressed. Then, the unimaginable happened: one of the employees who was supposed to be in charge of marketing for their new book launch was apparently not doing ANYTHING. She had been lying for months, showing reports and analysis showing all the hard work she'd been up to, when the reality was that it was all a lie. Well, obviously the girl was fired but something else happened. Our client woke up. She realized she had no idea what was really happening with her own business and put the trust in people who clearly weren't deserving of that trust.
One of our recent clients said it best when she said,
Here's thing thing: when you ARE the best (or want to BE the best), you need to WORK with the best. That goes for everything, but who you team up with for your brand is no exception. With this industry especially, you get what you pay for, so invest in yourself and raise that bar.
We'd love to work with you. Contact us today to get started.
